Technical definition
A knowledge gap occurs when an AI agent's retrieval system fails to find any document chunks with sufficient similarity to the user's query. The system logs the query, the retrieval scores, and the conversation context. Semantically similar failed queries are then clustered using embedding-based grouping to identify patterns rather than individual one-off misses.
